R. W. (Charlie) Turner, Partner

Charlie has over 20 years of experience as a business development, licensing, and finance professional in multi-national pharmaceutical companies, small specialty bio-pharma companies, biotech start-ups, and consulting firms. He has played a key leadership role in over 22 biopharmaceutical transactions, with cumulative value exceeding $1 billion. His responsibilities have included leading the negotiations, both internally and externally, through deal closure. He has also led other parts of the transaction process including: financial analyses & valuations, developing deal structures and internal proposals and coordinating due diligence. His diverse deal experience includes in-licensing, out-licensing, acquisitions, divestitures, product development, commercialization, co-promotion, technology assessment, manufacturing and supply agreements.

Since early 2009, Charlie has been providing business development, licensing and financial management services to early-stage biotechnology companies as an independent consultant. Along with serving his other clients, he currently serves as Acting VP, Finance & Business Development at Global Vaccines, Inc., a not-for-profit company based in Research Triangle Park, NC.

Previously, he was VP of Business Development at POZEN for eight years, where he had key leadership roles in a variety of deals with several companies including GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, Nycomed, Xcel Pharmaceuticals, and Lek Pharmaceuticals. Prior to POZEN, he held Business Development and Licensing positions at Pappas Ventures, Novartis Consumer Health and Glaxo Wellcome. Before beginning his business development career at Glaxo Wellcome in 1996, he worked for seven years in senior finance roles at Lilly and Glaxo, and practiced public accounting for two years with Ernst & Young.

Charlie earned a BS degree in Accounting from the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University and an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He is a licensed CPA and has earned the Certified Licensing Professional™ (CLP) designation.
